We looked for a vibrating ride to test the Vector unit. You know, a Harley that vibrates your feet right off
the floorboards and numbs your hands to sleep. In this case it was a 1993 Softail Nostalgia. The owner felt a subjective 75% reduction while Vector claims up to 60%.

With twenty years of taming torsional vibrations in engines, Vector Dampers now takes on the famous Harley Davidson motorcycles. These units come complete with a CNC machined custom sprocket and newly designed damper that completely eliminates the stock compensator, the sprocket extension shaft (on Big Twin models), and the chance of misalignment. Field tests have shown this vibration dampening design to be far superior to any other.
Vector has developed a vibration damper for Harley Davidsons that replaces the compensator and has been designed to reduce the inherent low frequency vibrations associated with Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Harley riders have always complained about the vibrations in their bikes. This vibration is caused by Harley's unique uneven firing-order, which also produces the "sound" that has become synonymous with Harley motorcycles. The design of the 45 degree V-twin also develops an irritating vibration that is usually felt through the foot pegs and grips. The vibration caused by the motor travels through-out the bike. In time, this can cause a rider's hands and legs to fall asleep, as well as loosen bolts.
The Vector damper is a two-piece steel outer shell with two internal inertia rings all bolted together complete with a new sprocket. The damper works to reduce normal vibration associated with uneven firing of the V twin; you can think of it as a radial shock absorber removing up to 60 percent of the vibration. It actually reduces the build-up of destructive, power-robbing, torsional vibrations created by the oscillating twist of the crank shaft. This also helps the user to see objects in the rear view mirror and eliminates the fatigue of a long distance ride.
